movement in the california redistricting initiative supported by governor schwarzenegger

last week, the california supreme court restored proposition 77 to the november special election. previously, lower courts ruled discrepancies in the filing process made it invalid. however the state supreme court maintained the public will overrides some technical errors.

complicating matters, the federal election commission ruled [bugmenot login] yesterday to remove any limits on spending on the ballot initiatives. predictably, a bipartisan group of incumbents plan to raise funds to fight the initiative which would make some of their legislative races less cushy.
